SPARTANS DEALT FINAL LOSS OF SEASON BY WILLIAM CAREY

LEWISTON, Idaho – [BOX SCORELess than 24 hours from a tough loss at the hands of Faulkner (Ala.), Missouri Baptist Baseball came up on the short end of its decision on Tuesday. Missouri Baptist struggled to get its offense going and lost its second consecutive game, this time to William Carey (Miss.), 12-3.

Missouri Baptist (45-16) trailed by just a run after one inning, but responded in the third. Aaron Collazo led-off the inning with a double and advanced to third as Kyle Keck tried to score. Keck, however, was gunned-down at the plate leaving the Spartan second baseman at third base with one out. Culver Plant batted him home on a ground out to second and cut the William Carey lead to 2-1. This, however, was as close as the Spartans got.

The Crusaders pushed three runs across the plate in the fourth inning as Larson Barkurn homered to make it a 4-1 game. A throwing error to home plate allowed Wes Brown to score and made it 5-1 and William Carey never looked back.

The Crusaders plated six in the fifth inning and put the game out of reach.

Missouri Baptist got a pair of runs back in the sixth with Austin Rieman's fifth home run of the year, but that was the extent of the run production for the Spartans.

"It was a tough 24 hours at Harris Field," said Head Coach Eddie Uschold. "I'm disappointed with the way we played, but this was a great season for these young men at Missouri Baptist University. I'm very proud of what we accomplished. We just had a difficult time getting people out the past two games."

In the game, Missouri Baptist was led by Collazo, who totaled three hits on the day. Chad Ramsey went 1-2 with two walks while Kyle Keck also picked-up a hit in his final game as a Spartan.

Missouri Baptist exits the 2017 Avista-NAIA World Series with a 1-2 record and a historical World Series record of 3-4.
