Lately, the schedule has been jampacked for Missouri Baptist University women's wrestler
Dymond Guilford, but she wouldn't want it any other way.
Â
Less than a month ago, the sophomore standout was at the top of the podium accepting her first-place medal at the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) National Championships. Guilford turned in one the most dominant performances of WCWAs in a loaded 170-pound weight class featuring six returning All-Americans. Now a two-time WCWA All-American herself, Guilford outscored her opponents 39-1 in five combined matches. She recorded two pins including one over 2018 U23 World bronze medalist Kori Bullock as well as three technical falls along the way. Just this week, Guilford was named
The Open Mat's Women's College Wrestler of the Month for February.
Â
Fresh off the gold medal performance at WCWA Nationals, Guilford switched gears and swapped out her MBU singlet for Team USA gear. Immediately following Nationals, Dymond attended training camp to prepare for a pair of upcoming international competitions. This time around, it wouldn't be Guilford's first rodeo. The sophomore from Lancaster, Calif. experienced her first international competition in September when she journeyed to Slovakia for the 2018 Junior World Championships.
  Â
Add two more countries to the list for Guilford. On Feb. 16, she made her second international appearance where she joined fellow Team USA members in Klippan, Sweden for the Klippan Lady Open. Wrestling at 76 kg, Guilford received a tough draw, opening against 2018 U23 World champion Paliha Paliah of China. While leaving the Klippan Lady Open still in search of her first international win, Guilford noted that each match has served as a building block for her and an opportunity to perfect her craft at the highest level of wrestling.
Â
Following a post-competition camp in Sweden, Guilford and her USA teammates trekked to Dormagen, Germany for the 2019 Grand Prix of Germany this past weekend. Wrestling at a more familiar weight class (76 kg), Guilford finally broke through with her first-ever international win in the first round by defeating Zsuzsanna Molnar of Slovakia, 9-4. The wheels kept on turning as she won by tech fall over fellow American Andrea Sennett (10-0) in the second round. With a trifecta in sight, Guilford capped off the Grand Prix of Germany with a victory over Germany's Frances Löhnhardt to capture yet another gold medal. Â
Â
No doubt, Dymond will be bringing plenty of gold-plated loot back to MBU's campus when she returns this weekend.
Â
"It's pretty amazing being with Team USA right now," Guilford told MBUSpartans.com from Germany. "I'm surrounded by a bunch of national champions. I've really been feeding off of their energy and mindsets of dominance and not giving up points. It's been a really impactful experience for me. Being on this trip has really opened my eyes to the international world of wrestling and I'm just blessed to be here at this time."
Â
The journey is far from over for Guilford. On March 15, the Spartans travel to Jamestown, North Dakota for the NAIA National Invitational where Guilford will attempt to win her third gold in just over a month. And after that? She'll get right back to training for the UWW Women's National Championships/U23 World Team Trials set for May.
