MEET RESULTS – WOMEN
ELSAH, Ill. – The long-awaited start to the 2019 cross country season arrived for Missouri Baptist University on Saturday with the Principia Cross Country Opener. Both squads finished second place in their respective team standings behind Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
In the women's 4K race, the Spartans made up nearly half of the top 15 finishers. Junior
Erin Tomschin and sophomore
Elizabeth Rogers cracked the top 10 and finished less than two seconds apart. Tomschin crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 17:01.75 while Rogers was right behind clocking in at 17:03.57.
MBU took the next four out of five spots with
Alyssa Jakcsy (17:18.49),
Emily Bayer (17:27.86),
Jynna Fritz (17:29.90) and
Ansley Little (17:35.81) taking the Nos. 11, 12, 13, and 15 spots. Despite the heavy presence in the top 15, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods took home first place as a team with the top 3 spots as well as 5, 7 and 8.
Junior
Richard Peugeot found himself in the lead pack and cracked 22 minutes, which was good for a fourth-place finish. The next group of Spartans to cross the finish line came through in a pack similar to the women's team. Second among the MBU runners was racewalk standout

th (23:28.97), sophomore
Luke Little in 13
th (23:33.52), senior
Brian Jordan in 16
th (23:53.23), junior
Joshua Person in 17
th (24:03.69) and
Dakota Stumpf in 19
th (24:27.31).
Mirroring the top of the women's standings, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods also took home the team title in the men's race. Finishing behind the MBU men were Principia College, St. Charles Community College and Blackburn College.
The Spartans will a bit of a break before their next meet when they head to Joplin, Mo. for the popular and well-attended Missouri Southern Stampede.
