AUSTIN, Texas – Missouri Baptist University Men's Golf senior
Tomas Ventieri has been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® At-Large Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday morning.
Acknowledged as one of the most selective and prestigious awards in college athletics, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The At-Large category is even more selective as nominations for schools are limited to four at-large candidates per gender, which includes the eligible men's sports of bowling, golf, lacrosse, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
Ventieri had a breakout senior campaign that included six straight Top 15 finishes this past spring to close out his four-year career. The native of Argentina played in 26 total tournaments in his time at MBU with a career scoring average of 76.78. He recorded four Top 10s and 11 Top 20s.
In the classroom, Ventieri graduated Summa Cum Laude this past May with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He has now begun work on an MBA. Ventieri has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA in every semester since coming to MBU in the fall of 2017. With an extra year of eligibility due to the cancelled 2020 spring season, the Argentine is expected to return to compete this coming season.
With women's lacrosse standouts Kaitlin Mills and Jordan Haeusser also earning AAA honors in the female At-Large category, this year's total for MBU student-athletes is up to seven. That surpasses the 2020 total of five to establish a new single-year record for Missouri Baptist Athletics.
