ELSAH, Ill. – It was another productive weekend for Missouri Baptist Track & Field competing at the nearby Principia College Relays. The Spartans achieved two more NAIA Indoor qualifying standards and won four events while churning out PR after PR for a second straight outing.
Mayson DeRousse captured first place in the Men's Heptathlon with top performances in the long jump and pole vault and four new heptathlon PRs – 60-meter dash (7.40), high jump (1.87m), 60-meter hurdles (9.34) and 1,000-meter run (3:10.33). DeRousse's score of 4,578 points, another personal best, also represents his second NAIA standard (4,150 minimum) this season. The Maryville University transfer currently ranks ninth in the NAIA in the men's heptathlon.
For a second straight week, the distance trio of
Emily Bayer,
Mia Reed, and
Isabel Rinkenberger recorded a 1-2-3 finish in the women's 1-mile run. Bayer led the pack and clocked in at 5:15.63 (converted to 5:12.54 on a 300m track) to qualify for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships with an NAIA 'B' standard. Reed is closing in on the qualifying time as well, finishing second out of 23 competitors with a 5:18.59.
On Friday, the dynamic distance trio teamed up with Madison Sargent in the Women's Distance Medley Relay and won the event by an impressive 28-second margin over second place Lindenwood University. Missing the Nationals standard by just 12 seconds, the distance medley team has a real shot in the coming weeks to hit that mark.
The Spartans' other first-place finish on the weekend came in the Women's Sprint Medley Relay. The team of
Maegan Saleh,
Perri Hogan, Madison Sargent, and Lillian Nix won with a time of 4:57.53 defeating second place UMSL by more than 16 seconds.
Donovan Denslow narrowly missed on the NAIA 'B' standard in the 3,000-meter run registering a new PR of 8:48.37 to finish fifth out of 28.
