DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Missouri Baptist University men's bowling team finished in the top half of a loaded field at the 22
nd Annual Leatherneck Classic this past weekend. Out of 45 participating teams, the Spartans amassed 8,698 pins to finish 21
st overall.
For the third straight outing, the Spartan men had a different athlete at the top of the MBU pack. Senior
Hunter Jones was the latest to lead the Spartans averaging 209.50 in six games with a 39
th-place finish. After bowling 193 and 195, Jones rattled off four consecutive games above 200 capped off with a 267 and one of the top single-game scores of the tournament.
Joining Jones in the Top 100 was veteran leader
Dakoda Phelps, who finished 57
th out of 426 competitors and averaged 203.66 in six games on Saturday. Phelps recorded three games above 220 with a 225, 223, and 234 in Games 2, 3, and 5.
Finishing just outside of the Top 100 was senior
Grant Smith in 102
nd place. Smith also notched three 200+ games with a high of 223 and tournament average of 191.16.
Rounding out the Spartans' top five were
Seth Harris (161
st) with a 203.80 average and three games above 200, and
Cameron Peters (333
rd) bowling three games and totaling 504 pins (168.00).
Missouri Baptist is back in action this upcoming weekend when it hosts the second annual Clash of the Spartans at St. Charles Lanes.
