FAYETTE, Mo. – No. 18-ranked Missouri Baptist University Women's Wrestling started off its 2022-23 season this Wednesday (Nov. 2) with a Top-20 dual squaring against NAIA preseason No. 14 Central Methodist University.
In the first match of the night, freshman Alyssa Quezaire made her Spartan debut at 109 pounds and started off strong with a take down early in the match and held a 5-2 lead over her opponent, Abigail Jasta, at the end of the period. Quezaire secured a 13-3 tech fall win with over a minute left in the second period.
At 116 pounds, freshman Juliana Diaz also had her MBU debut. After a tough match against Caitlyn Thorne, she came out on top with a 3-2 decision, putting the Spartans up 7-2.
The rest of the dual against CMU wasn't as smooth sailing, seeing multiple fall and tech fall loses. Leading up to the second to last match, CMU was able to pull away with a 24-9 lead.
At 170 pounds, sophomore Anastasia Hardin was able to secure a victory against Anyha Cain. Hardin pinned Cain just 1:17 into the first period bringing the score to 24-14.
MBU ended the night with a loss by tech fall and fell in the dual to the Eagles, 28-14. The Spartans will be back at it again on Saturday, Nov. 5 for the Friends University Falcon Invite that starts at 8:30 AM.
