ELSAH, Ill. – The Missouri Baptist University men's track & field team won its first-ever American Midwest Conference (AMC) Indoor Track & Field title on Saturday after scoring 171 points to finish atop of the eight-team field. This indoor championship comes just months after MBU captured the AMC Cross Country title and earned a team bid to the NAIA National Championships.
The Spartans edged out Columbia College by six points taking down the Cougars who had won the past four AMC Men's Indoor team titles. Rounding out the top five in the team standings were William Woods (126), Hannibal-LaGrange (93), and Lyon (69).
Senior
Mayson DeRousse brought home a slew of awards including AMC Newcomer of the Year, Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet, and Overall Athlete of the Meet. In addition to DeRousse's haul, the Spartan staff led by first-year head track & field coach
Brennan Cape was named Men's Coaching Staff of the Meet.
DeRousse posted a personal best in the 200-meter dash (23.45), one of two events that he earned silver in. The Maryville University transfer earned a top-of-podium finish individually in the pole vault (4.30m) and long jump (6.50m) while helping the Spartans' 4x400 relay to a first-place finish.
Putting in the mileage on Saturday was distance standout
Donovan Denslow, who took home gold in the 3000-meter run (9:07.17), while finishing as runner-up to William Woods' Landon Dunlap in the mile and Columbia's Alexander Dukes in the 5000-meter run.
Senior
Jordan Crawford became a three-time AMC indoor champion in the 3000-meter racewalk. Already sporting an NAIA 'A' standard in the event, Crawford to be in a different league than his other two opponents, who finished more than 7 and ½ minutes behind Crawford's winning time of 12:35.95.
Ian Lee Heung medaled in the triple jump grabbing bronze with a best attempt of 11.80m. Joining the others on the podium was freshman
Brayden Bauman with a third-place finish in the 200-Meter Dash (23.60). Another underclassman flashing promise in several events was sophomore
Camden Woolbright, who finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a PR of 9.21, and third in the high jump (1.80m) and long jump (5.98m).
