Three Spartans Go to Battle in Indiana Early Bird

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Missouri Baptist University sent three of their men's and women's track and field team members to compete in the Indiana Early Bird meet this past Friday (Dec. 8).

Senior Mayson DeRousse showed out at the competition, earning himself first place in the men's pole vault.

He matched his personal record of 5.05 meters, and he beat out quality Division I teams including the University of Kentucky and Butler University.

The IU Early Bird meet marks DeRousse's second time placing first in the pole vault competition this season, indicating that there will be many more first place feats to come.

Alaina Scott and Elias Neely are the other Spartans who participated in the events at the meet.

Representing the MBU Women's Track and Field team, Scott pole vaulted 3.40 meters, landing her at eighth place among competitors from impressive programs.

Neely sprinted the 400-meter dash in 51.60 seconds, beating his previous record of 51.87 and earning him eighth place in the competition.

After the outstanding performances this past Friday, both the men's and women's track and field teams highly anticipate their next meets on Jan. 13 at the Redhawks Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri State.
