CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Missouri Baptist University had two athletes win events at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted at Mount Mercy University on May 1-2.
As a team, the men's program took sixth, while the women's program took 14
th.
The Spartan men were led by a pair of event victories in the field, as freshman
Brett Drye won the long jump with a mark of 7.26 meters, while junior
Brandin Dodd claimed the high jump title by clearing 1.91 meters.
Those efforts anchored a productive weekend that also featured a third-place finish from
Steven Aguilar in the 10,000 meters (31:15.04) and a fourth-place showing from
Jordan Walker-Wright in the shot put (14.85m) and discus (43.61m).
On the track,
Grant Patten added a pair of distance scoring efforts, finishing fourth in the 1500 meters (3:57.39) and fifth in the 5000 meters (15:11.43), while Nicholas Fehr placed fifth in the 1500 (4:00.21). The Spartans also picked up relay points in the 4x400 (8th, 3:23.36) and 4x800 (8th, 8:02.92).
The Missouri Baptist women were paced by
Adrienne Rockette, who placed fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:45.38), and
TaMari Allen, who scored in two events with a seventh-place finish in the 100 meters (12.75) and another seventh-place mark in the long jump (5.36m).
Emma Lawson added a scoring performance in the hammer throw, finishing eighth with a mark of 44.71 meters.
Missouri Baptist also picked up points in both relays, placing eighth in the 4x100 (50.37) and 4x400 (4:10.96).
Additional notable performances on the women's side included
Julia Whorton placing ninth in the 5000 meters (18:51.15),
Haley Hernandez finishing 11th in the 10,000 meters (40:13.25), and
Tabitha Bryant leading a pair of Spartans in the 800 meters with an 11th-place finish (2:25.94), followed by
Mattie Noyes in 14th (2:27.20). Rosario Cortes added a 13th-place finish in the 400 meters (1:00.93), while
Carly Roussin contributed to multiple events, including the 100-meter hurdles and long jump.
For the men, additional contributors included
William Manning (12th, 400 meters, 50.29),
Wyatt Claiborne (11th, 3000 steeplechase, 10:17.09), and
Braden Kirn, who placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 50.14 meters.
Bryson Logan led the Spartans in the 400-meter hurdles with an 11th-place finish (55.42), followed closely by Lucas Sa in 13th (56.06), while the 4x100 relay team posted a time of 43.25.
