PITTSBURG, Kan. –The Missouri Baptist University women's track & field team made the most of its trip to the NAIA / JUCO Challenge hosted at Pittsburg State University on Saturday as a pair of Spartans earned podium finishes.
Junior Alaina Scott, who reached the NAIA 'B' standard last weekend, took home gold in the pole vault for the second week in a row. The reigning AMC Field Athlete of the Week vaulted herself into first place successfully hitting on her second attempt at 3.37 meters.
Another event that the Spartans shined in was the 1-mile run. Junior Mia Reed took third place out of 39 runners with a time of 5:17.33 and edged out AMC opponent Mekayla Gibson from William Woods to snag the conference's top indoor time so far. Also scoring points for the Spartans in the top-eight was sophomore Adrienne Rockette, who finished seventh with a time of 5:25:58.
Other notable performances in the mile included Gracie Kopala (5:46.36) in 17th place and Lillian Harris, who shaved 22 seconds off her previous best to for a new PR of 6:02.41.
Freshman Angela Ward stood out in the 400-meter dash to take eighth out of 36 participants. She currently owns the top time in the AMC at 1:01.17.
Sophomore Mattie Noyes collected another top-eight finish for MoBap, placing eighth out of 23 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.17.
With a small group competing, the Spartans finished 12th out of 22 teams at the NAIA / JUCO Challenge. MBU will compete closer to home next weekend as they trek to Elsah, Ill. for the Principia Relays, hosted by Principia College on Friday, Jan. 26.
