CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University track and field team turned in several strong performances Saturday at the Redhawks Invite, hosted by Southeast Missouri State at the SEMO Rec Center.
On the women's side,
Carly Roussin led the Spartans with a first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 9.06 seconds.
Kenleigh Lange followed close behind in second with a time of 10.29.Roussin also added a runner-up finish in the long jump, posting a best mark of 5.09m, while teammate
TaMari Allen placed third with a jump of 5.05m.
In the sprints, Allen finished fifth in the women's 55m in 7.67 seconds, and
Julianne Hansen placed 11th overall with a time of 7.98.
In the 200m, Allen and Hansen placed third and fourth, respectively, with times of 28.46 and 28.68.
Adrienne Rockette led the distance runners with a fourth-place finish in the women's mile, clocking a 5:30.26, while
Haley Hernandez,
Camrin Watkins,
Alyssa Collins,
Noelle Reed, and
Lillian Harris all competed in the 3,000m, with Hernandez leading the Spartans by placing fifth in 11:32.71
Mattie Noyes added a sixth-place finish in the 800m at 2:34.01, and
Tabitha Bryant followed in eighth at 2:44.23.
The Missouri Baptist women (Rockette, Bryant, Noyes, Hansen) also took second in the 4x400-meter relay, posting a time of 4:32.38.
Cortlen Johnson led the men, capturing first place in the 55m with a time of 6.56 seconds. He also posted the fastest qualifying time in the prelims at 6.61 before securing the win in the finals.
Johnson later doubled back to claim another victory in the 200m, crossing the line in 23.89.
Brandin Dodd finished tied for second in the event at 23.99, while
Brett Drye followed in fourth with a time of 24.17.
Missouri Baptist showed depth in the 200-meter field, with
Dylan Morrison (24.69),
Malakai Mays (25.56),
Elias Newberry (25.70), and
Canaan Patterson (25.77) all recording top-15 finishes.
In the field events, Drye earned a win in the long jump, posting a best mark of 6.99m.
Dodd added another podium finish by taking second place in the high jump, clearing 1.80m.
The Spartans (

William Manning,
Sam Bland,
Alex Shields) capped off the meet with a victory in the men's 4x400-meter relay, as the squad crossed the line first in 3:36.31. The relay team held off Lane and Southeast Missouri to secure the top spot.
James Kelly turned in a strong showing in the hurdles and the pole vault for the Spartans. Kelly placed third in the men's 55-meter hurdles finals with a time of 7.96 seconds after qualifying for the finals with an 8.01 in the prelims. He also added a third-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.35 meters.
Nicholas Fehr led the Spartans in the men's 3,000 meters, finishing fourth overall with a time of 9:00.11. Fehr won his heat and recorded the fastest time among non-SEMO competitors.
Missouri Baptist also saw contributions in the throws, as
Kaileb Rhen placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 14.57m, while
Jordan Walker-Wright followed in seventh at 14.52m.
Lester Jenkins added a 13th-place finish with a throw of 12.49m
MBU also saw action at the UK Rod McCravy Invitational in Louisville, Ky., where
Isabella Aimonette represented the Spartans in the women's 3,000m. Aimonette posted a time of 10:17.87, finishing 15th in a highly competitive field that featured several NCAA Division I programs.
MBU Track & Field continues its indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Coach Richard Alsup Open in Maryville, Mo., hosted by Northwest Missouri State University.
