ELSAH, Ill. — On Saturday (Feb. 17), the Missouri Baptist University women's track and field team claimed first place at the AMC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship for the third time in the program's history.
MBU participated in 17 events and earned 170.00 points, beating out the second place team by 16. They also achieved impressive individual accomplishments.
Eight Spartans placed first in their events, two hit NAIA standards, one received a co-Athlete of the Meet honor, and multiple bested their previous personal records.
Alaina Scott (3.57 m) hit an NAIA 'A' standard in the pole vault, broke her previous PR of 3.47 m. and landed at first place. Scott also took second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.79).
Fellow vaulter, Ashley Grothaus hit 3.05 m, and finished second in the event.
Graduate student Emily Farchmin (1:38.99) also hit an NAIA standard in the 600 meter run, putting her at 2nd place out of nine.
Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet and co-Athlete of the Meet, Mia Reed, finished first in the mile with a time of 5:30.45. Reed also took first in the 1000 meter (3:15.79).
Hungry for more competition, Reed claimed second place out of 14 in the 3000 meter run (10:58.20). She also ran in the 4x800 meter relay, along with Adrienne Rockette, Angela Ward, and Farchmin.
Rockette had herself a day as well, placing first in the 800 meter (2:24.00), and second in the mile (5:30.59).
Ward made noise as a freshman at the competition, finishing second out of 11 in the 400 meter dash. She also set a PR of 1:01.08 (prev. 1:01.17).
Two other stand-out freshmen, Hannah Hiers and Emma Lawson, hit high marks in their events.
Hiers sprinted to first place in the 60 meter dash (8.08), and she landed at fourth in the long jump (4.92 m).
Lawson took fourth out of 22 in the weight throw (13.47 m), breaking her previous record of 11.51 m.
Julianne Hansen, another first place finisher, ran 27.08 seconds in the 200 meter dash. Following close behind was Laine Cottrell (27.23) who placed third in the event.
Cottrell also took fourth in the 60 meter dash. With her time of 8.14, she bested her previous record of 8.19.
