ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's soccer defeated Hannibal-LaGrange University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, marking the team's ninth victory of the season.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 9-5-2 overall and 4-0-2 in conference play.
The Spartans concluded their home schedule with a record of 5-2-1. MBU currently holds first place in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) following Saturday's victory.
MBU controlled the game from start to finish, outshooting the Trojans 12-4 and recording six shots on goal compared to HLGU's two.
Emilio Hernandez and Jack Ridley netted goals for MBU, each scoring their first of the season. Callum McKinlay recorded a clean sheet with two saves, securing his first win of the year in goal.
Hernandez opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a free kick that gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead in the first half. Ridley added an insurance goal in the 71st minute to seal the 2-0 victory.
The Spartans (9-5-2) will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 30, with a road game against William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
