Atherton, Calif.- The Missouri Baptist Women's wrestling team headed west to compete in the Menlo Open, hosted by Menlo College. Several Spartans placed in the season opening tournament.
Josette Partney, the nationally ranked no. 2 at 160 pounds, finished 5-1 on the day, claiming a third-place finish at 160. Partney won by technical fall in her first two rounds before claiming an 8-3 win over Alana Ontiveros of the host school, Menlo College. Partney's tournament run stopped when she fell to Alexandra Lopez, wrestling unattached, in the semifinals. Partney quickly bounced back with a technical fall and pin to finish third.
Jordyn Anderson, the freshman from Newport News, Va., had herself quite the tournament in her first college open. Anderson fell in her match of the day to Kaylee Annis of Southern Oregon University. Then Anderson persevered on the backside, claiming three victories en route to her third-place finish, eventually avenging her sole loss to Annis on criteria in the third-place bout.
Other standout performances for the Spartans include a third-place finish at 103 by
Lillian Hackworth, claiming a technical fall victory in her final match.
Makayla Murray won over teammate
Meghan Menke to finish third at 124.
Abby Chandler finished third at 207 with a win via pin.
Anastasia Hardin finished the day 3-2 with two technical falls and a pin.
The Spartans head to Forest City, Iowa, to compete in the Waldorf Open next weekend, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024.
