ROLLA, Mo. — On Friday (March 22) and Saturday (March 23) the Missouri Baptist University Men's track and field team launched their outdoor season at the Miner Invitational with some impressive performances across multiple events.
On Friday, Jordan Walker-Wright, Colin Hutson, Jordan Notz, and Warren Gann competed in field events including the shot put, the discus throw, and the hammer throw.
Jordan Walker-Wright excelled in all three of these events. He took 11th out of 66 opponents in the discus throw (42.35 m), 18th out of 54 in the shot put (13.66 m), and 18th out of 42 in the hammer throw (43.54).
Colin Hutson also made some noise in these events. He placed 31st in the shot put (12.47 m), and 37th in the discus throw (34.35 m).
Gann, a sophomore at MBU, hit personal records in both the discus throw and the hammer throw. In the discus, he hit 33.85 m (prev. 32.43 m), putting him at 39th place, and in the hammer, he hit 35.48 m (prev. 35.37 m), finishing in 36th place.
The rest of the team joined the others on Saturday to compete as well.
Sophomore Josiah Heras displayed an excellent performance in the 400 m run. He ran a time of 51.36 and finished in eighth place. With this time, he hit a new PR (prev. 52.05).
In the first outdoor track event of his collegiate career, freshman Austin Tilley took 38th out of 67 in the 200 m (23.67).
Grant Patten, another impressive newcomer to the outdoor track, placed 19th out of 49 in the 800 m (2:02.17). He also finished at 32nd place out of 85 in the 1500 m (2:02.61).
Seasoned veteran, Brayden Bauman, took 19th place out of 67 in the 200 m (23.04). He also finished at 30 out of 62 in the 100 m (11.53).
The Spartans will compete again this Friday (March 29) at the Wash U Distance Carnival and Saturday (March 30) at the Wash U Invite.
