ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri Baptist University Women's Track and Field started off their 2024 outdoor season with a bang at the Missouri S&T Miner Invitational on Friday (March 22) and Saturday (March 23).
Freshman Emma Lawson competed in three events on Friday: the discus throw, hammer throw, and javelin throw.
She performed especially well in the javelin throw (13.72 meters), earning herself 14th place out of 27 opponents. In the discus throw, she hit 31.72 m (27th), and in the hammer throw, she hit 34.38 m (37th).
On Saturday, the rest of Lawson's team joined her to compete in various track and field events.
Senior Emily Farchmin excelled in the 1500 m run, landing at fifth place with a time of 4:54.90.
The AMC Conference Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year, Hannah Hiers, placed seventh in the 100 m, running it in 12.78. She also did well in the 200 m (26.74), taking 11th place.
Angela Ward and Julianne Hansen, two other freshman who have found success on the collegiate track this year, took seventh place in the 400 m (1:00.30) and ninth place in the 200 m (26.63).
In the pole vault competition, seasoned veteran Alaina Scott hit 3.25 m, putting her at fifth place.
Julianne Hansen, AMC Conference Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year, placed ninth out of 53 in the 200 m (26.63).
Hannah Duro and Mattie Noyes also made some noise at the meet. Duro hit 29.86 m in the javelin throw, landing at 16th place out of 27. Noyes ran the 800 m. in 2:31.45, taking 22 out of 42.
The Spartans will compete again this Friday (March 29) at the Wash U Distance Carnival and Saturday (March 30) at the Wash U Invite.
