SAINT LOUIS – Spartans' starting pitcher
Jackson Wells is the being recognized by the American Midwest Conference as the Pitcher of the Week, the AMC announced today.
The nod follows an outstanding effort on Saturday. The lefthander from Centralia, Mo. stymied the William Woods University Owls, throwing a seven-inning complete game shutout while allowing only four hits. He walked three and struck out six Owl batters.
The AMC award is the first in the career of Wells, who joined the Spartans this season from St. Charles Community College (Mo.). This is the second MBU hurler to achieve the honor in the 2024 season, as
Landon Albers was recognized two weeks ago in Week Eight. The Spartans have had two AMC Player of the Week awards, with
Cole Robinson and
Alex Adams collecting those honors.
The Spartans will return to the field tomorrow when they travel to Ozark, Mo. to face Mission University, formerly Baptist Bible College, for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
