MBU Women's Soccer Opens Regular Season at Baker on Saturday

ST. LOUIS — MBU women's soccer team will open its 2024 regular season on the road with a match against Baker University on Saturday at 5 p.m. CDT at Hartley Field.

The Spartans return to the pitch after finishing the 2023 season with a 6-11-1 record, reaching the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament. This year marks their final season in the AMC before transitioning to the Heart of America Athletic Conference in 2025.

MBU will face future conference foe Baker in Baldwin City, Kansas, with the match streamed live, and live stats available. Baker enters the 2024 season with a 1-1 record after a loss to Cumberland (Tennessee) and a win over McPherson. The Wildcats finished the 2023 season with a 5-11-2 record, ending their campaign in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament. Saturday's match will be Baker's home opener.

Skylar Hollingshead returns for MBU after leading the team with ten goals last season. Goalkeeper Gabby Mattli, who started 17 matches last season and recorded 84 saves, also returns.

The Spartans begin the season with a two-match road trip, starting at Baker and concluding next Wednesday at Missouri Valley College. MBU's home opener is set for Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. against Campbellsville University at Spartan Field, marking the start of a two-match home stand.
