SALEM, Ore. — The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team defeated Corban University 4-2 on Thursday evening in a come-from-behind victory. Marko Dordevic scored twice, and Sergej Misic's go-ahead goal in the 74th minute propelled MBU to a 3-0 start to the season.

Dordevic's two goals in the match bring his total to four on the young season. Misic's tally gives him three goals for the year, and Jovan Mihajlovic found the back of the net for the first time in 2024.

The Spartans outshot the Warriors 24-12, with 11 shots on goal compared to Corban's eight.

It was MBU's third physical match in a row, as 35 fouls were called throughout the evening, 21 on the Warriors and 14 on the Spartans. Both sides received four yellow cards during the match.

In the 35th minute, Dordevic opened the scoring, netting his third goal of the season to give MBU a 1-0 lead.

Corban answered in the second half, scoring in the 61st minute to tie the match before quickly gaining the lead with a goal in the 67th minute to go up 2-1.

The Spartans responded swiftly, scoring three goals in less than five minutes to take a 4-2 lead. Dordevic scored his second goal of the game in the 72nd minute to even the score at 2-2. Misic then put MBU ahead for good with a goal in the 74th minute. Mihajlovic extended the Spartans' lead to 4-2 in the 76th minute, putting the match out of reach.

MBU maintained its lead for the remainder of the match. This 3-0 start marks the first time the Spartans have won three consecutive matches to start the season since 2022, when the team began 4-0. 

MBU wraps up Its four-match west coast road trip on Saturday at noon PDT against Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon.
