ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team defeated Culver-Stockton College 5-2 in its first home victory of the season, improving to 4-2 on the year.
Five different goal scorers lifted the Spartans over the Wildcats, with the five tallies marking the most goals MBU has scored in a game this season.
Matthew O'Reilly was named Man of the Match, scoring his first goal of the season and first in a Spartan uniform while also recording an assist.
Sergej Misic netted his fourth goal of the season, while Luka Mrvic, Jack Carney, and Edvin Mahmutovic all scored their first goals of the season.
MBU outshot Culver-Stockton 17-12 and had 10 shots on goal compared to the Wildcats' six.
Ten yellow cards were issued in the match, with six given to Culver-Stockton and four to the Spartans.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the fifth minute, taking a 1-0 lead before a quick response from Misic tied the match at 1-1.
In the 25th minute, O'Reilly gave MBU a 2-1 lead off an assist from Ognjen Bozovic. Mrvic extended the lead to 3-1 in the 40th minute.
Following halftime, Culver-Stockton trimmed the deficit to 3-2 on Ruben Reinertsen's second goal of the game in the 63rd minute, before goals from Carney and Mahmutovic sealed the Spartans' victory.
The Spartans (4-2) return to action Saturday at 11 a.m. CDT against receiving votes Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois.
