SILVIS, ILL. - Missouri Baptist University placed 10th out of 24 teams as a squad at TPC Deere Run in the NAIA Midwest Invitational.Logan Malott's +6 paced the Spartans' +47 throughout the two-day event.
On the first day at TPC Deere Run, Luke Gardner and Malott shot four over at 75. Gardner found a pair of birdies on the front nine while Malott got one of his own on the back nine.
The Spartans went +24 collectively on the opening day of the invitational placing them tied for 10th with Waldorf.
Malott's second day was solid, sinking four birdie putts including one on the par three at hole seven. The back nine for Malott was a clean one picking up eight pars and one birdie to come in one under on the back as he went +2 (73) on the day.
The par five on hole two was where Gardner picked up his lone birdie on the afternoon as he parred 14 holes on the second day to finish up his round at +3 (74).
Malott tied for 13th in the invitational with a 148, just one stroke outside the top 10 and two outside the top five. Gardner's 149 placed him in a tie for 21st.
Sam Beggs also broke into the top 50 at the invitational with a +13 (155).
On day two the Spartans bested their first round-score by one stroke and finished the round at +47 giving them 10th place at the NAIA Midwest Invitational at TPC Deere Run.
The next time the Spartans will hit the links is on Oct. 7-8, in Memphis, Tenn., in the NAIA Memphis Shootout at TPC Southwind.
