HARTSBURG, Mo. –
Luke Gardner won his second golf tournament of the fall to lead Missouri Baptist University to a team victory at the William Woods University Invitational, hosted at Eagle Knoll Golf Club.
Gardner, a senior from Springfield, Mo., shot two under with 142 total strokes (70-72), besting Victor Vella from William Woods by three strokes.
On Monday, he rolled in a pair of eagle putts on the front nine to secure a 32 and finished +2 on the back nine, including a birdie at the par-four 11
th. On Tuesday afternoon, he finished even par with a birdie on eight that put him at -1 on the front before a birdie and back-to-back bogeys on holes 13-15 put him at 37 coming in.
Pedro Cordova (+4),
Will Dugal (+5), and
Logan Malott (+8) were also among the scorers for the Spartans in eighth, 11
th, and 15
th, respectively. Cordova birdied three holes on the front nine in both rounds to go 73-75, Dugal shaved off three strokes from Monday's 76 behind an even score on the front nine on Tuesday, and Malott went 77-75.
Ruger Govero was outside of the top four for the Spartans, but broke 80 in both rounds with a 79 on day one and a 77 on day two.
The women did not register a team score, but had
GG Rogers earn a top-10 finish in sixth place. The junior led MBU with an 80 on Monday, including three birdies, and an 84 in round two.
Elena Montalban finished 11th with a 93 in both rounds, followed by freshman
Zelletta Wyatt, who took 27
th.
MBU golf ended its fall schedule on Tuesday and will resume play next semester in the Spring.
