ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Missouri Baptist University men's and women's tennis both picked up victories over Westminster College on Thursday at the Lindenwood Tennis Courts. 

"It was great to see both teams come out strong from the first point and have the discipline to control their matches," assistant coach Christian Hamilton said.

The Spartan men cruised to a 7-0 victory for the team's first victory of the new campaign. All three doubles matchups resulted in a 6-1 victory for MBU earning the men the doubles point heading into singles. 

In straight sets, the Spartans won all six singles matches propelling MBU to the 7-0 victory to open its season. 

The Spartan women secured their second victory of the new season with the team's 4-0 victory. Only dressing three Blue Jays, multiple defaults and a couple of wins for MBU lifted the Spartans to the win. 

Mariana Azevedo and Yvonne Shannon won their doubles match 6-0 securing the doubles point for MBU before the other two matches were defaulted by Westminster. 

Shannon, Jocelynn Carmody and Azevedo all cruised to victory in singles giving the Spartans the 4-0 win before the other matches were defaulted.
