ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's basketball fell to Columbia College, 87-69, on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up its three-game home stand.
With the loss, the Spartans dropped to 8-11 overall, 3-4 at home, and 5-4 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play. MBU has now lost two straight games and secured just one home victory this week, defeating Harris-Stowe State University on Tuesday.
Senior Austin Lewis led the Spartans with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. He also added one assist and recorded six blocks.
Evan Palmquist was the only other Spartan to score in double figures, finishing with 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds and tallied three assists.
MBU shot 38.4% from the floor and just 27.3% from three-point range. The Spartans struggled at the free-throw line, converting 4-of-7 attempts for a 57.1% clip.
Columbia College controlled the game throughout, holding the lead for all 40 minutes while shooting 47.8% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range. The Cougars' largest lead of the game, 21 points, came with just over five minutes remaining.
The Cougars found success inside, scoring 46 points in the paint.
Columbia's Collin Parker made history with his 10 points, becoming the program's all-time leading scorer. Parker also recorded 19 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.
MBU trailed 44-33 at halftime but made a run in the second half. A dunk from Lewis brought the SRC crowd to its feet, cutting the Cougars' lead to five and forcing a timeout.
Following the break, a later three-pointer from Thai Elder made it a four-point game, but Columbia regained control and pulled away for the 87-69 victory.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday on the road against Hannibal-LaGrange University. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
