No. 16 MBU Baseball Picks Up First Win of 2025 Over Providence Christian

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – No. 16 Missouri Baptist University baseball improved to 1-1 on Friday afternoon with a 10-1 win over Providence Christian College. The Spartans played eight innings against The Master's University as well before the game was shortened by darkness. The contest will continue tomorrow at 2 p.m. (CST), followed by game three.

Jakob Kouneski walked in the top of the first inning and came around to score on Cole Robinson's RBI double to left field. Robinson later scored on a Marcus Graham single before an error on a pickoff attempt allowed another runner to score to extend the lead to 3-0.

Kai Gray continued his hot start to the season after going 2-for-4 with a home run on Thursday and drove in two more runs with a double in the second inning. Graham singled in a sixth run in the top of the fifth, Lucas Lefebvre and Miles Meadows drove in runs in the seventh, and two more unearned runs scored in the ninth to extend the lead to 10-0.

Carter Sabol, a graduate student from the University of Purdue Fort Wayne, got the start on the mound for Missouri Baptist and fired five scoreless while allowing a single hit and four walks with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Brady Stephan came in and allowed a hit in a scoreless sixth inning of work, Creed Martin struck out two in the seventh, and Austin Szverra finished the game off with a pair of innings, but not before allowing a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
