OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. - Missouri Baptist took care of business in their delayed contest against Arizona Christian as Taylor Whitehead threw seven innings of shutout softball and the offense did their part, scoring five runs on nine hits.
Whitehead surrendered only one hit, coming from a double in the second inning, in her seven innings of work in Missouri Baptist's win over Arizona Christian. Whitehead only faced 23 batters throughout the course of the game and picked up a strikeout per inning.
Camryn Kessler put on a show for the Spartans on the offensive end, going 1-for-1 with two walks, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Jacie Dees and Miranda Ladson had a pair of hits in the victory.
Missouri Baptist struck first with Kessler's two RBI double that scored Dees and Brooklynn Fischer. Later in the second inning, Ladson had an RBI single that scored Kessler, making it 3-0.
Makayla Johnson brought Kessler home to score in the fourth inning, and Allison Leigraf scored Natalie Archer to account for Missouri Baptist's five runs.
The Spartans played clean softball, making no errors behind Whitehead.
Missouri Baptist also held a 4-0 lead against No. 15 Midland before the game was called due to weather conditions in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The victory over Arizona Christian boosts the Spartans to 9-2 on the season, and brings Whitehead's record to 3-0.
