Carter Sabol and
James Jett earned American Midwest Conference baseball weekly awards after leading No. 23 Missouri Baptist University to an 8-0 week in conference play.
Sabol won his third AMC Pitcher of the Week award of the season after going 2-0 with 19 strikeouts over 11 innings pitched with eight hits and two runs allowed. On Monday at Central Baptist College, the graduate student tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts and two earned runs over seven innings. He followed up with a 10-punchout performance over four innings at home against Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday.
For the season, Sabol has pitched to a 1.66 ERA in 10 starts, posting a 9-1 record, two complete games, one shutout, and 86 strikeouts over 54.1 innings.
The AMC Player of the Week went to
James Jett after carrying the Spartan offense with five home runs, 21 RBI, six stolen bases, 14 runs, and a 1.648 OPS. In the four-game sweep against CBC, he slugged two home runs and drove in 12 total runs. He followed up with three home runs against the Hornets in the series at home, including nine runs batted in.
Jett currently leads the team this season in home runs (16), RBI (56), total bases (114), hits (55), and OPS (1.434).
MBU baseball continues the season with a mid-week contest at (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene University on Tuesday, April 15. This weekend they travel to William Woods University for a four-game set to conclude conference regular season play.
