BOURBONNAIS, ILL. - At Rend Lake Golf Course in the Conference Clash, Missouri Baptist had the lowest scores in both days of the two day event as they outpaced their three opponents. Luke Gardner, Tomas Frencia, and Sam Beggs stood atop the leaderboard at the end of the event as they all finished in the top three, respectively.
Gardner and Frencia both had incredible days in the first of two at the Conference Clash as they both posted scores of -3.
Gardner bested his first day on the final day of the tournament as he improved his score by three strokes, shooting an even par 72, and beating the rest of the field by seven strokes or more. After double bogeying hole three, he chipped away at his score by picking up a handful of birdies, including back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14 on day two.
Frencia placed second in the Conference Clash after being tied with Gardner after day one. He picked up his lone birdie of the second day on hole four.
Beggs climbed the leaderboard on the second day of the event as he shot a +3 75 with a pair of birdies and some pretty solid gold throughout the day.
Logan Mallot and Blaze Greathouse found themselves tied for fifth with one other golfer at the end of the event as they went +14 throughout the tournament.
As a squad, the Spartans shot +22 on the first day, outpacing the rest of the teams by 13 strokes or more. Missouri Baptist had an even better day on the final day of the tournament when they shot +15, posting the two best rounds of the tournament by any team.
The Spartans had a total score of +37 to win the Conference Clash, and the closest team to them was Olivet Nazarene with a score of +60.
The Spartans will return to the golf course on Monday, Apr. 7 for the UHSP Spring Invitational at Gateway National Golf Club.
