ST. LOUIS - Spartan Softball Field played host to a doubleheader featuring two of the top squads in the AMC, and Missouri Baptist took care of Central Baptist in the first of two games, but their offense fell stagnant in game two as the Mustangs went home with a 3-2 victory.
Â
Game One Recap
The first inning was pretty similar for each side as they each got a runner on base, but nothing came from it on either side and they went into the second inning tied at zero.
Â
Makayla Johnson picked up a huge two-out hit in the bottom of the second that went down the left field line, clearing the loaded bases and putting the Spartans up 3-0. Just one batter later, Jacie Dees hit a single up the middle that brought Johnson home before the inning ended.
Â
The bottom of the third inning started with back-to-back-to-back hits coming from Alexi Sanchez, Allison Leigraf, and Jenna Achs. Camryn Kessler walked to drive in a run and Miranda Ladson tripled to score everyone else, increasing their lead to 8-0. Johnson brought Ladson home on a ground ball later that inning.
Â
Brooklynn Fischer had a stellar appearance in the circle, going five scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out six Mustangs on the way to her 14th win of the 2025 campaign.
Â
The two big innings propelled the Spartans into the 9-0 victory over CBC. Missouri Baptist put together good at-bats when they were needed, stranding just three runners on the basepaths.

Game Two Recap
After the offensive outburst in game one, the Spartans struggled to pick up the hit they were looking for in the second game. Missouri Baptist had the bases loaded with one out in the second inning, but were unable to drive in a run.
Â
Central Baptist was threatening to score in the third inning, but Taylor Whitehead and the Spartan defense stood strong and got out of the inning unscathed.
Â
The fifth inning was fruitful for the Spartans, but they left a few runs off the scoreboard with a few outs on the basepaths. A caught stealing and a baserunning error took two potential runs off the Spartans' total, but Johnson drove in a run with a single to right field and Dees hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 heading into the sixth.
Â
The Mustangs got going in the sixth inning when the Spartans went to Fischer out of the bullpen, scoring three runs on three hits. Central Baptist brought in Isabella Sawyers in the bottom of the sixth inning, and she slammed the door shut on MBU, pinning a 3-2 loss on the Spartans.
