OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. –
Brooklynn Fischer's three-run home run and complete game victory in the circle led Missouri Baptist University softball to the first NAIA Tournament win in program history on Monday.

The Spartans defeated William Carey University 8-2 in the NAIA Opening Round and move on to play Oklahoma City University on Tuesday, May 12, at 4 p.m.

After surrendering a run in the top of the first inning, Fischer helped her own cause on the rubber with a three-run home run at the plate in the bottom of the first inning. She went on to throw a complete game with five hits allowed, two earned runs, and three strikeouts.

Makayla Johnson singled to lead off the bottom of the second, stole second, and scored to make it 4-1 on an RBI ground out from
Jenna Achs.
Jacie Dees doubled in a fifth run, followed two batters later by an RBI single from
Miranda Ladson to make it 6-1.

Johnson started another rally in the third, singling with one out and scoring on an RBI single to right field by
Emily Wright.
Camryn Kessler singled after Johnson and scored on another RBI from Achs, this time on a single to the shortstop.

The Crusaders put runners on first and second in the top of the fifth with one out, prompting
Ted Leigraf to make a trip to the pitching circle. Fischer came out of the short break with a fielder's choice and a 1-3 ground out to end the threat.

The lefty from New Florence, Mo., went on to retire the next six batters to complete the contest with an 8-2 final to improve her record to 21-3 in 2025.
