Jett Clubs Two Home Runs, Sabol Hurls a Complete Game to Start NAIA Tournament

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – James Jett hit two home runs and drove in six runs to back a complete game victory from Carter Sabol over the University of Northwestern Ohio in the NAIA Opening Round on Tuesday morning.

The Spartans defeated the Racers in run-rule fashion, completing a 12-2 victory with a run in the bottom of the seventh that gave them the 10-run advantage.

They win their 21^st game in a row, improve to 41-9 overall, and move on to play the site host, the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), on Wednesday, May 14, at 2 p.m. (CT).

The Racers led off the first inning with back-to-back singles, but Sabol was up to the task, retiring the next three hitters in order, including a strikeout, to work out of the jam. He went on to toss seven innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out three. The righty from Nokomis, Ill., improved to 12-1 and has won his last seven starts.

Jett paced the office, clubbing a 368 ft three-run shot in the first inning and followed up in the second with a 421 ft two-run home run. He was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day, including an RBI single in the fifth and the RBI single that ended the game at 12-2 in the seventh.

MBU tacked on to Jett's five RBI in the first two innings with an RBI single from Jayden Orozco in the bottom of the second. UNOH posted a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but MBU responded with another run in the bottom half when Blayne Yarger scored on a balk.

Leading 7-2 in the fifth, Carlos Hidalgo hit a double and scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Tyson Ludwig. An error, a balk, and an RBI double from Yarger made it 10-2, followed by Jett's single.

Sabol worked around a leadoff double in the sixth, a two-out single in the seventh, and had the game ended when Jett drove in the final run with a bases-loaded single.
