Jayden Orozco and
Zach Peters swept the Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball weekly awards on Monday after carrying No. 12 Missouri Baptist University baseball to a 4-0 record against No. 11 William Carey University and Indiana University Kokomo over the weekend.
Orozco put together a dominant four-game stretch, going 8-for-15 (.533) with six runs scored, two doubles, and three RBIÂ to lead his team to a 4-0 record.
The infielder opened the week with a 3-for-4 performance in a 3-1 win at William Carey University, collecting two doubles and driving in a run. He added a hit and a run scored in a 10-3 victory over Indiana University Kokomo later that day.
He continued to produce in a 9-6 road win against the Crusaders, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. He capped the weekend with another two-hit effort in an 8-6 win at IU Kokomo, scoring twice and driving in a run while swiping two bases.
For the week, Orozco posted a .611 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage, totaled 10 bases, and recorded multiple hits in three of four games.
Peters was lights-out at the back end of the bullpen, earning two saves against No. 11 William Carey University while striking out six batters over two innings of work.
The 22-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, sealed a 3-1 victory on Feb. 12 with a dominant inning, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out three. He issued one walk but did not allow a runner to advance.
Peters returned the following day to close out a 9-6 win, again striking out three over one inning. He surrendered just one hit and did not allow a run, securing his second save of the series.
The Spartans continue play this week in their home opener against Doane University.
