OLATHE, Kan. – No. 8 Missouri Baptist University baseball scored 36 total runs in a pair of victories to open a four-game series at MidAmerica Nazarene University on Friday afternoon.

An eight-run fifth inning helped MBU overcome an early 5-0 deficit in game one as the Spartans earned a 19-6 victory. Griffin Brown and Carlos Hidalgo combined for nine RBI in game two as the club secured another comeback win with a 19-10 final.

Game One Recap
The Pioneers came out in the first inning of game one swinging, tallying five runs, including home runs from Ronnie Rowley and Jeremy Morales, to chase starting pitcher Teague Robertson from the game after two-thirds of an inning.

Austin Szverra took over in relief, handing his team 5.1 innings, four hits allowed, one earned run, and six strikeouts.

Trailing 5-0 in the third, Griffin Brown singled home a run to get MBU on the board. He knocked in another run in the fourth with a single as part of a three-run frame.

Now trailing 5-4 in the fourth, Nick Beech tied the game with his fifth home run of the season to lead it off. The Spartans went on to tally eight total runs in the inning, including a two-RBI double from Jayden Orozco and run-scoring hits from Miguel Padron, Beech, and Angelo Franco.

A sacrifice fly from Sam Paule tacked on another in the sixth, and a two-RBI single from Padron in the seventh made it a 17-6 ballgame.

Mason Arnold was called on out of the bullpen to close out the game and made quick work of the first two batters. MNU then collected back-to-back singles before Arnold got Ryan Martinez to fly out to end the game.
