No. 10 MBU Softball Splits with No. 13 Grand View on Saturday

ST. LOUIS – No. 10 Missouri Baptist University softball defeated No. 13 Grand View University 4-2 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader before falling by the same score in game two.

Kaylie Brake tossed her 11th complete game of the year in the opener to improve her record to 12-2, backed by a go-ahead three-run home run by Miranda Ladson in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the second game, MBU rallied in the late innings to tie the game at two before a two-RBI single to centerfield from Lark Drake pushed the Vikings to a 4-2 win.

Game One Recap
Grand View struck in the top of the first inning on an Alexia Jarrett RBI single to push home Nevaeh Randall. A sacrifice fly from Camryn Kessler in the bottom of the second tied the game, and an Elle Nelsen single in the fifth put the Vikings back out in front 2-1.

MBU starting pitcher Kaylie Brake settled in after surrendering the run in the fifth and retired the side in order in the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brooklynn Fischer worked a one-out walk, and Alexi Sanchez brought the go-ahead run to the plate with a single to left field. GVU pitcher Molly Breeding got Jacie Dees to pop out for the second out.

Miranda Ladson stepped to the plate and worked the count to 2-2 before fouling off three consecutive pitches. On the eighth pitch of the at-bat, she clubbed a dramatic three-run home run to put the Spartans ahead 4-2.

Head Coach Ted Leigraf sent Brake back out to the pitching rubber to complete the job, and she worked around a two-out double with a groundout to complete the game 4-2.

In total, the sophomore from McCleansboro, Ill., surrendered two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while picking up a pair of punchouts.

Game Two Recap
Grand View took a 2-0 lead through the first three frames on a solo home run from Gabriella Taber in the second inning and on a run scored on a passed ball in the third inning.

Allison Leigraf connected for her third home run of the weekend to tie the game at two in the fifth. After trailing in the count, she blasted her team-leading sixth home run out to left-center to give the Spartans new life.

Fischer, MBU's game two starting pitcher, continued to pitch into the sixth inning, getting two quick outs before surrendering a single and a double with two outs. Lark Drake stepped up and delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to send her team out in front 4-2.

Sanchez tried to get the ball rolling in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff walk, but relief pitcher Claire Leinen retired the next three hitters in order.

The Spartans threatened again in the seventh on singles from Leigraf and pinch hitter Aliviah Fischer to begin the frame. Leinen buckled down, however, and got the next three hitters to secure the 4-2 final and her sixth win of 2026.

Fischer ended the day with seven innings of work in the circle, five hits, four runs (three earned), one walk, and six strikeouts.
