Griffin Brown, a senior outfielder, was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week on March 23. This is the first honor of his career.
Brown dominated in a four-game weekend against MidAmerica Nazarene University, leading the Spartans to a sweep to extend their nine-game win streak.
On Friday, March 20, Brown delivered a .625 hitting average for a 1.477 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS). This included five hits in eight at-bats, two runs, and seven RBI. The Spartans dominated the double-header 17-6 and 19-10.
Brown carried his momentum into the next day to secure two more wins for the Spartans, 6-3 and 26-6. He hit .429 with a 1.524 OPS and scored seven runs and drove in three RBI, including one home run.
Brown ended the week with a combined average of .533 and 1.482 OPS. He also had zero strikeouts and no errors.
The Spartans are ranked No. 8 in the NAIA with a record of 18-4, going 8-0 in conference play. They will face Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) at home on Tuesday, March 24, at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
