Spartans Throw Combined No-Hitter, Beat CSC Twice on Tuesday

ST. LOUIS – No. 8 Missouri Baptist University baseball threw a combined no-hitter against Culver-Stockton College to complete a doubleheader sweep at Spartan Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon.

MBU took game one 6-3 behind Jayden Orozco's go-ahead RBI triple in the third inning.

Joseph Giunta started the combined no-hitter in game two with four innings and five strikeouts, eventually completed by Mason Arnold, Jameson Strozier, and Taylon Laxson.

Game One Recap
Culver-Stockton shut out the Spartans through the first two innings of game one and took a 1-0 lead on an RBI infield single in the second inning.

Jayden Orozco answered in the third inning with a bases-clearing, three-RBI triple to propel the Spartans in front.

Wyatt Wright tied the game with a two-RBI single in the fourth, but a Culver-Stockton error in the fourth returned a one-run lead for the Spartans.

Nick Beech drilled a ball through the left side to score Griffin Brown in the fifth, ahead of Orozco scoring on a wild pitch to give MBU a 6-3 lead.

Closer Zach Peters got the call in the seventh, looking for his fifth save of the season. He struck out the first two batters he faced, surrendered a pair of two-out singles, and got Jeremiah Morris to ground out to end the game.

Jackson Wells got the start and the win for the Spartans on the rubber, going four innings with two earned runs and four strikeouts. Quentin Graves relieved him in the fifth and fired scoreless frames, including one strikeout.
