ST. LOUIS – No. 6 Missouri Baptist University baseball split a doubleheader on Thursday, April 23, at William Woods University to open the final four-game conference series of the season.
Teague Robertson led the way with five strong innings on the mound in game one. AJ Vasquez outdueled
Gus Lucas to earn the 2-0 victory for the Owls in game two.
Game One Recap
William Woods struck first in the bottom half of the first on a solo home run from Jude Gremillion.
Griffin Brown responded with a solo home run in the second, followed later in the inning by a solo blast from
Miguel Padron to give MBU a 2-1 lead.

In the third, an error and a run-scoring single from
Max Shabestari opened the lead to 5-1.

Shabestari added another RBI in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, followed by a two-RBI double from Brown to 8-1.

JD Whitter worked around a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to close out the game and a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Robertson got the start on the mound and tossed five innings, allowing one earned run and five hits with one strikeout.

Owls' starting pitcher Vasquez was the story of game two, shutting out the Spartans in a 2-0 complete-game victory. The redshirt sophomore from Manteca, Calif., went the distance, allowing six hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

WWU scored its two runs on an error in the bottom of the second inning and an RBI single from Carson Shettlesworth in the bottom of the third.

Matis Crouwel led the Spartans with a pair of hits. Lucas went the distance for the Spartans, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) with five strikeouts.
