ATCHISON, KAN. – Missouri Baptist University women's lacrosse secured its spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship with a decisive 19-7 victory over Ottawa in the semifinal round Thursday morning at Legacy Field.
The Spartans (11-5) wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for 10 first-quarter goals to build an early cushion they would not relinquish. Missouri Baptist outshot Ottawa 26-18 and controlled possession throughout, highlighted by a 15-6 advantage in draw controls.
Leading the offensive effort was Sophia Rose, who recorded a game-high five goals and four assists for nine total points. Delaney Pechnik and Marissa Oldham each added three goals, while Madison Terrell contributed two goals and four assists.
Missouri Baptist's depth was evident, as eight different players found the back of the net. The Spartans also capitalized on opportunities in transition and on free-position chances, maintaining steady, dominant pressure across all four quarters.
Defensively, Missouri Baptist limited Ottawa to just three goals through the first half, building a commanding 14-3 lead at the break. Goalkeepers Rachel Livak and Octavia Bookman combined for six saves in the win.
Ottawa was led by Rilee Barnett, who scored six of the team's seven goals.
With the victory, Missouri Baptist advances to the Heart Conference Championship, where it will compete against Benedictine for the conference title. Faceoff will be set for Saturday, May 2, at 11 a.m.
