ST. LOUIS – Head Coach
Eddie Uschold surpassed the 1,000-win milestone on Monday, April 6, behind a pair of walk-off victories over Benedictine College.
Uschold, in his 27
th season at the helm of the seventh-ranked Missouri Baptist University baseball program, is now 1,000-467 overall in his 28-year career, and 986-441 in his time as a Spartan.
In game one, a slugfest cooled off in the middle innings, leading to a 9-8 Benedictine advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Carlos Hidalgo tied the game up in the last inning ahead of
Nick Beech's walk-off double.
In game two,
Zach Peters pitched 4.1 innings in relief and struck out 10 in a nailbiter. MBU fell behind 5-0, tied the game in the seventh, and picked up Uschold's 1,000
th win with a walk-off single from
Kai Gray.
Game One Recap
Benedictine struck for five runs in the top of the first inning of game one, highlighted by a three-run home run from Korey Messick and a solo shot from Michael McCavitt. MBU answered with three runs in the bottom, including two on Beech's RBI double down the left field line.

Messick drove in two more in the second inning, answered by a three-run home run by
Carlos Hidalgo, in the middle of a 5-for-5 performance, to cut the lead to 7-6.
Matis Crouwel knotted the game up later in the inning with a bases-loaded walk.

Carson Hintz hit a solo home run in the fourth to give the Ravens an 8-7 lead and followed up with another solo blast in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-7.

Beech set up a dramatic ending in the seventh with a solo home run in the sixth. Hidalgo tied the game up with an RBI single to left, and Beech doubled him home three batters later to complete the game with a 10-9 final.

After the Ravens knocked out the starting pitcher after one inning of work,
Austin Szverra entered the game in the second and gave his club six innings of work and 11 strikeouts while allowing two earned runs. He improved his record to 4-0 out of the Spartan bullpen.

Four first-inning runs from the Ravens had them out to a big lead early, and Brice Martin added a fifth run in the fourth inning on an RBI double.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth,
Jayden Orozco doubled in two runs, followed a few batters later by Beech's two-RBI double.

Down to their final three outs and a runner on third,
Angelo Franco hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to tie the game and force extra innings.

Zach Peters got the nod in long relief on Monday afternoon and tossed 4.1 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and two walks. He picked up his second win after
Kevin Watkins doubled with one out in the 10
th before scoring on
Kai Gray's walk-off single to left field.
