COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 8 Missouri Baptist University had its season ended in the NAIA Opening Round with an 8-3 loss to the University of Tennessee Southern on Tuesday.
MBU ends the season as the Heart of America Athletic Conference Regular Season Champions and at 40-14 overall.

Tennessee Southern jumped out early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Mikayla McCain opened the scoring with a two-run home run to right field, and Marie Bodily added a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0.
Missouri Baptist answered in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by
Miranda Ladson to make it 4-1.
The Firehawks added an unearned run in the third inning, taking advantage of an MBU error to push the lead to 5-1.
Ladson cut into the deficit with a solo home run in the fourth inning, extending her program record for career blasts (26), but Tennessee Southern responded with two more runs in the fifth, aided by a wild pitch and an RBI double from Haley McDaniel to make it 7-2.
Makayla Johnson hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for the Spartans, but UST added another unearned run in the seventh to seal the 8-3 victory.
Stella Gilbreath (14-8) earned the win, tossing a complete game while allowing three runs on six hits.
Brooklynn Fischer (14-5) took the loss for Missouri Baptist.
