The MBU men's lacrosse team traveled to Lawrence, Kansas March 26 and 27 to take on the University of Kansas (GRLC Div. I) and Creighton University(GRLC Div. II).  The Spartans came home with two big wins, to improve to 5-2 overall, 2-1 in the GRLC.
 

On Friday, sophomore attack man David Justvig had another incredible day scoring five goals in the game. He had plenty of help as MBU's offense was up 7-3 at half.  The Jayhawks made some adjustments on both sides of the field to start the second half, and shut the Spartans out, while scoring two goals to bring the lead to only 7-5.  

MBU switched up the defense to a zone to keep KU at bay, and goalie Ben Hughes contributed in a big way, recording 11 saves in the second half alone. The offense picked back up, scoring four goals in the fourth quarter to make the final score 11-8. 

In addition to Justvig's five goals, ophomore Ryan Zimmer had one goal and one assist, and junior Justin Mueller added two goals. Ben Hughes recorded fourteen saves.

The Spartans battled the wind and rain in a re-match of the 2009 GRLC Quarterfinal game. MBU found redemption early, as they created an eight goal lead by half time.  The defense, led by juniors Alex Belosi and Ben Hughes, shutout the Blue Jays in the first quarter. 

The Spartans controlled the game, until some late penalties allowed Creighton's Man Up unit to close the gap. MBU was able to hold off the run, winning 12-8.

David Justvig continued his hot streak, scoring an impressive seven goals on the day. Ryan Zimmer scored two goals and had one assist, as did sophomores Tyler Smith and Nick Fensom. At the net, Ben Hughes had 12 saves (.600 Save Percentage.

MBU will host Rockhurst University at SLU High School on April 9.
