Fenton, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist women's soccer team were looking for their fourth win in the American Midwest Conference Standings after previously falling to Hannibal-LaGrange. After leading at halftime, the team took over the second half scoring five goals in dominating fashion winning 6-1.
The entire game was all about the Spartans sending a message that they were going to win this game. The team was able to score early in the first half on a goal by
Amber Hennrich who tipped it past Benedictine's goalie Lindsay Taylor in the 19th minute to make it 1-0. That was all the scoring in the first half, but MBU had plenty of chances as they outshot the Bulldogs 14-5.
In the second half, the team kept its pressure on the Bulldogs. In the 64th minute
Melissa Schnettler netted what turned to be the game winner to make it 2-0. Benedictine continued to fight back as Presley Kerber scored in the 69th minute to make it a 2-1 game.
It was all Missouri Baptist after that as
Courtney Young who had 13 shots in the game scored in the 70th minute to make it 3-1. The team went on to score three more goals two of which came by
Carly Hampel and the other by
Ashley Burton to make it a final 6-1.
The Spartans played strong offense and defense as they outshot the Bulldogs 38-13. MBU's goalie Samantha Schulze made nine saves on the evening.
The team will enjoy this win until they head on the road to face McKendree University on October 20th at 5:30 p.m.
