ST. LOUIS, Mo.- A late change in last night's American Midwest Conference standings, now has the #6 seed Missouri Baptist women's soccer team traveling to the #3 seed Hannibal-LaGrange Lady Trojans.
In what was supposed to be the Spartans traveling to William Woods, the Owls last night were defeated by Park University, which dropped WWU in the standings and Hannibal-LaGrange was able to jump them.
So now, the Spartans will travel to Hannibal-LaGrange for their second meeting this season. In the first match, between the two teams a few weeks ago, the Lady Trojans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on a goal by Raelene Blanton. The one goal lead stayed the same until the half, with HLG outshooting MBU 8-6.
In the second half, the Spartans were outshot again 8-6, but their scoring chances picked up mid-way through the half. Then, in the 68th minute after receiving a pass from Taylor Chatmon, Samauri Williams was able to do a spin around shot, kicking it over Lady Trojan goalie Whitney Voepel to tie the match up 1-1.
Missouri Baptist had one final chance to capitalize, however, Hannibal-LaGrange cleared the ball away from danger, keeping the game scoreless after 90:00 minutes of play. Both teams would normally prepare for overtime, but due to darkness the game was called a 1-1 tie.
Players to keep an eye on for Missouri Baptist include the trio forwards of Megan Huffman, Kirsten Neal and Anna Recer. The three have combined for 19 of the 43 goals scored this season, and will be looked upon to get the early momentum on the road. Other players who could play a factor are mid-fielder Lauren Clinton, forward Carly Hampel and goalie Elizabeth Kahn.
Hannibal-LaGrange closed out their regular season on a two game winning streak, shutting out Stephens College and Lindenwood-Belleville by a combined score of 9-0. The Lady Trojans are led by Blanton and Sarah Hammack, combining for 12 goals on the season. Anna Alms, Samantha Boyle, and Jamileh Abdal-Kadar are other players to look out for, as each Lady Trojan has three goals on the year.
The Spartans and Hannibal-LaGrange will square off on November 2nd at 1:00 p.m. To view the rest of the AMC seeding and bracket, visit AMC Bracket
