SPARTANS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER WITH CHRISTIAN BROTHERS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Memphis, Tenn. - In their first double header of the season, the Missouri Baptist women's softball team lost the first game, but battled to take the second against Christian Brothers University.

In the first game, the Spartans sent Jena Trombley to the hill. It was a rough first inning for Trombley, as the pitcher gave up two runs in the first. However, the freshman was able to settle down after the inning, holding CBU down until the middle of the fifth.

The Spartans bats were cold early until the top of the fifth. The team had a chance to tie the game up, having the bases loaded. MBU's Corey Pitchford flied into the inning ending double play. The Lady Bucs were able to extend their lead to 6-0, forcing Trombley from the game. The team was unable to come back falling, 8-0.

In her first college game, Jena Trombley pitched fairly well having just two rough innings. The team managed just three hits off of Lady Bucs pitcher Michelle McEachron who pitched a complete game, throwing 90 pitches. First baseman Taylor Rosa-Ramon led CBU with a three hit day and four runs batted in.

In the second game of the double header, Kristen Bennett took the hill and dominated all day. The sophomore pitched a complete game allowing two hits and striking out one on just 83 pitches.

The Spartan hitting was still cold having two hits in the game, but the team made most out of those two hits. The only run came in the fourth inning, when Megan Wildhaber walked, and then she stole second. After a ground out, Wildhaber was able to advance to third. Jenna Bentlage walked and was relieved by pinch runner Ashley Kroener.

Then, Kroener tried to steal second base, but was thrown out. However, her aggressive base running allowed Wildhaber to score from third for the 1-0 win. Corey Pitchford and Katie Payne each had one hit.

The team will stay on the road and play Bethel College in a double header on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
