Leigraf Powers Spartans to Home Wins over William Penn

ST. LOUIS – No. 10 Missouri Baptist University softball opened its home schedule with a pair of run-rule victories over William Penn University on Friday afternoon at Spartan Softball Field.
 
Allison Leigraf clubbed a pair of three-run home runs in the second inning of game one to lead a 12-1 win to begin the day. Three Spartans tallied two RBI in game two to back Kaylie Brake's 9-1 complete game win.
 
Game One Recap
Brooklynn Fischer got the start in the home opener and stranded a runner at third base in the top of the first inning to keep the game tied at zero. Alexi Sanchez put the Spartans ahead with an RBI single after Makayla Johnson doubled in the leadoff spot.
 
In the bottom of the second, the first two batters of the inning singled, and Leigraf drove them all home with a three-run home run to centerfield. Alohilani Bursey and Fischer singled in runs later in the inning, followed by Leigraf's second three-run shot of the inning to open an 11-0 lead.
 
WPU got one back in the third, but Emily Wright drove in a run in the fourth to answer.
 
In the fifth, Madison Sherry relieved Fischer in the circle and stranded a pair of baserunners to close out the contest 12-1.
 
Fischer ended the day with four innings, three hits, one unearned run, and two strikeouts. It improved her 2026 record to 6-2.

Game Two Recap
MBU jumped out to another big lead in the second inning of game two. Sanchez doubled, Miranda Ladson walked, and Camryn Kessler singled home a run. Jacie Dees plated another with a double to left-center, followed by Brake's two-RBI single to center, Bursey's RBI groundout, and Fischer's RBI double.
 
Leah Conlon put a run on the board for the Statesmen in the third, pushing home Laila Gutierrez, who led off the inning with a walk. Brake retired the next two hitters with a groundout and a popout.
 
Leigraf singled home a seventh run in the third. Bursey added another with an RBI single in the fourth and scored on a double by Fischer in the next at-bat to extend the lead to 9-1.

In the top of the fifth, Brake struck out the first batter and worked around a one-out single to end the contest with a 9-1 final for her 10th complete game of the season. She ended the day with five innings, four hits allowed, one earned run, and four strikeouts.

The Spartans host No.13 Grand View University for the Heart of America Game of the Week on the Urban Edge Network on Saturday, March 21. The first pitch at Spartan Softball Field is set for noon.
