The No. 10 Missouri Baptist University softball team (19-6, 5-1) is gearing up for a back-to-back doubleheader this weekend. Friday, March 27, the Spartans will host MidAmerica Nazarene University at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. They then face No. 17 Central Methodist University (Mo.) on Saturday, March 28, at noon and 2 p.m.
The Spartans look to build momentum after an 11-1 stretch in March thus far. Their first loss of the month came from a split match against No. 13 Grand View University last weekend.
The team has moved up to the No. 2 spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and jumped from No. 15 to No. 10 in NAIA rankings.
The Spartans are led by starting pitchers
Kaylie Brake and Brooklyn Fischer. Brake leads the team with a 2.47 ERA and 12-2 W/L record. Fischer holds a solid 3.07 ERA and has led the Spartans to six wins this season.
At the plate, the team features several strong hitters.
Makayla Johnson, sophomore shortstop, boasts a .494 batting average and 1.361 on-base plus slugging (OPS). She also leads the team in runs, collecting 34 this season.
Alohilani Bursey has driven in a team-high 26 RBIÂ this season with a .351 batting average and four home runs.
Allison Leigraf, senior infielder, leads the Spartans in homers with six.
The MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers currently rank sixth in the Heart conference, holding a 19-9 (5-3) record thus far.
The No. 17 Central Methodist University Eagles started out the season as the Heart of America Athletic Conference favorite but have since fallen to fourth after going 20-9 (6-2).
