ST. LOUIS, Mo. - After starting the season 0-4, the Missouri Baptist women's tennis team rattled off consecutive victories, beating St. Louis College of Pharmacy and East Texas Baptist University on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Spartans (2-4) were dominant over the past two matches, only surrendering one point. On Tuesday, the team made it a clean sweep, winning 9-0 after decisive victories from the doubles teams of Nikki Riddle/Kristen Roberts and Megan Brendel/Nicole Zevlever.
Elise Beckenmeier, Alexa Cortez, Sheena Payton, Hannah Wadlow, Zevlever and Roberts all recorded singles victories on the day as well.
On Wednesday, the Spartans had another consistently good match. The team swept in doubles and won all but the number one singles match. Perhaps the most exciting match on the day was the number four singles competition between MBU's Alexa Cortez and ETBU's Kali Kipp. Cortez won the first set, 6-4 and completed the sweep with another narrow 7-5 win.
The Spartans are now 2-4 on the season and will try to make it three in a row tomorrow when the team travels to take on Evangel University.
