ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri Baptist women's tennis recovered quickly after a loss on Thursday. The team picked-up a needed win over Concordia (Neb.) on Friday evening at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center, 6-3.
Missouri Baptist (5-3) lost two singles matches on Friday, but picked-up five singles victories to take home the win. After losses at numbers one and two doubles, Hannah Wadlow and Alexia Cortez picked-up the first point for MBU with a big 8-3 victory.
In singles, Elise Beckenmeier dropped her match at number one singles to Katelyn Koll of Concordia in straight sets. This was, however, the only match that the Spartans surrendered for the remainder of the day.
For Missouri Baptist, Niki Riddle, Hannah Wadlow and Nicole Zevlever rolled to victories, but the action all took place on the number four and six courts with Kristen Roberts and Sheena Payton.
MBU's Roberts dropped her first set 3-6, but showed patience throughout. Roberts came back in the second set over Liz Kjellsen 7-5. In the tiebreak set, Roberts took control. The senior from Wentzville won 10-3, securing the Spartan victory on the day.
Payton's match was also extremely close as the sophomore showed a mental toughness after a tough, first set loss, 1-6. Payton came back in the second set with a 6-4 win and went on to win the tiebreak set 10-5.
The Spartans will play on Saturday at Dwight Davis in Forest Park against NCAA Division II squad, Quincy University.
