ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri Baptist women's tennis won one if its three doubles matches, but lost three singles early in competition on Friday against Baker University as the team completed its season with a 1-5 loss at the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
The tournament, which featured seven teams from the American Midwest, Heart of America and Midwest Collegiate Conferences, began on Friday with quarterfinal play. Teams competed until a team reached five points.
Though Missouri Baptist started with two losses at numbers one and two doubles, the team's number three team of Alexia Cortez and Kristen Roberts took its court x-x.
As singles began, Baker came out strong as it looked to wrap-up the match. Missouri Baptist refused to go quietly, and fought for each point. As Elise Beckemeier, Cortez and Megan Brendel were still in it, the Spartans lost three consecutive singles matches in straight sets to seal the defeat.
Missouri Baptist finished the season with a 7-5 record this season.
